Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Chancellor of Perez University College, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, who is also the founder of Perez Chapel International (PCI), said: ”With the aim of kindling faith, engendering innovation, and uplifting distinction, today the Perez Chapel International is giving to you a modern 8-classroom block furnished, a 2,000-seater multipurpose hall, and a renovated classroom block, the total cost of all these being about GHS5 million”.

According to Bishop Agyinasare, “Since we bought this school three years ago, we have spent almost $3 million so far. But we are still building, and are currently in the process of completing another 8-classroom block and a lecturers’ bungalow. And very soon, hostels would spring up all over the campus. This is just the beginning, but the best is yet to come”.

Bishop Agyinasare, therefore, “charge the students, faculty and staff to be good ambassadors of the school”, adding that: “The management of this institution is expected to save 10% of the Internally Generated Funds for maintenance of the campus. Strict sanctions must be applied on anyone who misuses school property”.

Perez University College is an educational initiative of the Perez Chapel International.

It was started as a Bible College in September 1992 in Tamale, Northern Ghana by Bishop Charles Agyinasare. It was then called World Miracle Ministerial College (WMMC) and later Miracle Ministerial College (MMC) when it was relocated in Accra when the founder moved in 1994. In 2013, the institution’s name was changed to Perez College (when the Church’s name was changed to Perez Chapel) with authorisation from the National Accreditation Board.

On November 15, 2015 Perez Chapel International acquired the Pan-African Christian University College, the first accredited private University College in Pomadze-Winneba, in the Central Region of Ghana. Currently, Perez University College has NAB accreditation for a School of Business offering Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA HR, Accounts, Finance, Banking), a School of Communication & Social Science (BA Communication Studies) which is affiliated to Cape Coast and a School of Theology (BA Pastoral Care, Counselling, Theology) which is affiliated to the Trinity Theological Seminary.

It also has a School of Engineering (BSc Electrical, Computer Engineering) which start from the next academic year. It is affiliated to the University of Mines and Technology.

According to Bishop Agyinasare, Perez-UC chisels out the bad and the ugly traits of its students so that the good shines out. “Irresponsibility, bad stewardship, disrespect for authority and the likes are negative qualities that will not be entertained in the university. The university inculcates in students, words of the greatest role model, Jesus Christ,” he stated.

PROJECT HANDING OVER, PEREZ-UC

Co-Founder of Perez Chapel International, Rev. Mrs Vivian Agyinasare, Assistant Presiding Bishop Rt. Rev. Ohene Benjamin Aboagye, Members of the Executive Council of Perez Chapel,

The Rector of Perez University College, Council of Perez UC, Nananom, Clergy, reps from NAB, the Media, distinguished ladies and gentlemen.

You are welcome to this project handing over ceremony. For long I have been anticipating a day like this, and, at long last, I have lived to see it. Today is a significant day in the history of both Perez Chapel International and Perez University College, and we should rejoice and be glad in it. Especially, for those who know the history of Perez Chapel, you must know that we have come from very far to be here today, and we are still striving to accomplish our God-given mandate to transform generations.

It is a memorable day for Perez Chapel because our daughter is growing quickly and taking shape, and very soon will be independent. And for Perez University College, today is a landmark occasion because infrastructure that would provide an enabling environment for students and faculty to provide the best output is being delivered as promised. Ebenezer, thus far has the Lord brought us. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

But in a time where universities and tertiary institutions abound in this country and the world over, one may wonder why we are so passionate about establishing Perez University College, a Christian institution of higher learning. The reason is very simple.

The most authoritative book in the world says in Proverbs 1:7 that, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge”. In other words, it is the fear of God that provides the very foundation for knowledge. In the words of Apostle Paul, “Knowledge puffs up”. This means that, even though knowledge is good, it is not sufficient on its own. And history abounds with people who rose quickly in the public view because of their great knowledge, but who fell more quickly because of their lack of godly fear. There are myriads in society who had great vision, academic and intellectual superiority, dynamic oratory, management expertise, and great wealth, and yet hit rock-bottom because they were lacking the most important component – the fear of God.

That is why the centre of Perez University College is first of all faith, and then innovation and distinction. Actually, we believe that true faith will enhance these last two qualities. Time will not permit us to go back to Sunday School and analyse several Bible characters who were people of faith, innovation and distinction. But since I am a church boy, I can’t help myself, so allow me to mention in passing Joseph, Bezaleel, Daniel, Solomon, Paul, and many others. I just mentioned them in passing, Hallelujah.

As you may already know, genuine faith produces character. And like I love to say, “Charisma can take you to the top, but it is character that will keep you there”. “Personality can open doors, but only character can keep them open”, as Elmer Leterman asserted. In short, your gift without character is inadequate. Power without it is confusion. And intellect without it is disastrous. Therefore, at Perez-UC, we cannot do without faith, with a strong emphasis on good Christian character; and those who go through this place are shaped to know what to do when no one is watching because they know we are all accountable to a higher power.

In this school, we chisel out the bad and the ugly traits of the student so that the good shines out. Irresponsibility, bad stewardship, disrespect of authority, and the like are negative qualities that will not be entertained here. We inculcate in students the words of the greatest Role Model, Jesus Christ, who said in Matthew 7:20, Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. And like good farmers, we will help them produce good fruit, to order their private lives so their public lives would impact their generation.

But what is faith without life-transforming works? Even the Scripture says that “Faith without works is dead, being alone”. And that is why, in this institution we believe in innovation that makes a difference and leaves an indelible mark on society. Especially in one of the most trying times in the history of the country’s economy, where there are many more people than available jobs, innovation or innovativeness is not just a good quality, but is a necessary one.

Like many preachers have said in the past, God turns the stones that were thrown at you into stepping stones; He makes your mess a message; and He causes the stone that was rejected to become the chief cornerstone. Others have added that, when lemons are thrown at you, you need to turn them into lemonade. If this is not the essence of innovation, then I don’t know what is! Precious one, what I mean is that, innovation uses the available to create the desirable. And that is what I believe. And this quality will be ingrained in the products of this university college.

Finally, although faith is good, and innovation is great, what impact would they make if their output is substandard? It would be like lighting a lamp and putting it under a basket instead of on a hilltop. Evidently, whatever innovation there may be, it must be relevant and set apart from the status quo. And whatever faith a person has, it must cause him to stand out. He must be outstanding, excellent, distinctive. Allow me to fall on the Bible one more time, which says “Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord”. Surely, if it is as unto the Lord, then it must be done with distinction.

At Perez University College, we strive to produce graduates who are willing to pay the price to be really good at what they do, knowing that average people only produce average results. It is a place where people are educated to eschew mediocrity, and inspired to stretch their imagination to know that the only limits are the ones they put on themselves and their thinking. In the words of Martin Luther King Jnr, “Whatever your life’s work is, do it well. A man should do his job so well that the living, the dead and the unborn could do it no better”.

So, we believe that you should excel others in your field. Let the care of your own body speak volumes about you. Distinguish yourselves as sensible and responsible citizens by the way you treat school property.

Faith, Innovation, and Distinction. Of this stuff we are made.

Therefore, with the aim of kindling faith, engendering innovation, and uplifting distinction, today the Perez Chapel International is giving to you a modern 8-classroom block furnished, a 2,000-seater multipurpose hall, and a renovated classroom block, the total cost of all these being about 5 million Ghana cedis.

Since we bought this school three years ago, we have spent almost $3 million so far. But we are still building, and are currently in the process of completing another 8-classroom block and a Lecturers’ bungalow. And very soon, hostels would spring up all over the campus. This is just the beginning, but the best is yet to come.

We, therefore, charge the students, faculty and staff to be good ambassadors of the school. The management of this institution is expected to save 10% of the Internally Generated Funds for maintenance of the campus. Strict sanctions must be applied on anyone who misuses school property.

Let me conclude with the words of Martin Luther King Jnr., “If you have to be a street sweeper, sweep streets so well that when the hosts of heaven and earth pass, they may say “there lived a great street sweeper who did his job well”.

On this occasion let me say that, let the sacrifices made by Perez Chapel International be worthwhile.

God bless Perez University College, God bless Perez Chapel International, and God bless Ghana.
